Ryan is a Founding, Managing Partner at Great North Labs (GreatNorthLabs.com). Great North Labs is a Minnesota based venture capital fund geographically focused in the upper Midwest. Great North Labs invests in early stage tech startups across any industry. The fund is managed by successful tech startup founders and includes support by advisors in the region as well as in Silicon Valley.
From 2000 to 20017, Ryan was Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at a portfolio of consumer media and ad technology companies that operated under the names Freeze.com (2000-2005), W3i (2006-20010), and NativeX (2010-2017). The company grew to a peak of 170+ employees, $70M+ in revenue, and had offices in St. Cloud, Minneapolis, and San Francisco. The last operating company (NativeX) was sold in March of 2016 and Ryan stayed on until May of 2017 to support the integration with the Chinese acquirer.
From 2006 to 2017, Ryan was also an active angel investor through a family office, started with his twin
brother Rob, called 32 Degrees. 32 Degrees primarily invested in early stage tech startups based in
Minnesota. The fund averaged two investments pear year and included local tech successes such as
Zencoder, eBureau, and FieldNation.
